Host School:
Spanish & Latin Dance is for all those who want to discover the Dominican attitude towards life not only through the foreign language but also through the people’s dances and music. In the mornings, the students tackle Spanish vocabularies, and in the afternoons, native dance instructors teach them the steps and passionate body language of the Latin movement: Merengue, Bachata and Salsa.
The course takes place in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, a great place to meet people and practice your newly acquired skills in Spanish and dancing.

Santo Domingo is situated on the ocean, providing a beautiful vista while beaches suitable for swimming are located 45 minutes outside of the city. The bustling capital, with a population of 2.5 million, is heavily influenced by merengue, the national dance. Nestled amongst the new office buildings is Old Santo Domingo, with colonial charm and many interesting sites to see, like what is said to be the First Church of the New World and the resting place of Christopher Columbus himself.
Known for its old Spanish ruins, beaches, and baseball players, the Dominican Republic is located about 600 miles southeast of Florida. It occupies two-thirds of Hispaniola, an island discovered by Columbus when he ran the Santa Maria aground on Christmas Day 1492. The island’s strategic position between the Panama Canal and Central and South America has made it a natural gateway to the Americas. Here one can hike on mountains, travel through lush jungle and semi-arid deserts, or enjoy the sea from white sand beaches. Despite a booming tourist industry attracted by the natural beauty, upscale casinos, and low cost of living, the country is still largely undiscovered today.
Participants: Mostly from Europe and the US. Average age 25.
Other: Classes offered: Merengue, Bachata and Salsa.
Dance classes meet Monday-Thursday afternoons.
