The Chilean ski season runs from late June through the end of September. The capital city provides great access for local skiing and snowboarding opportunities. Nearby mountain peaks rise to over 5,000 meters (19,000 feet), giving the city a remarkable backdrop. With the Spanish & Ski package each week you receive a weekday pass and a weekend pass. You may select which days you will ski based on weather conditions. The two nearby resorts are both 45-60 minutes from the center and are easily reached by frequent shuttles, included in your Spanish and Ski package is free transportation (door-to-mountain El Colorado) once per weekday and weekend.

Santiago is beautifully set in a wide plain with the backdrop of the Andes and lots of public gardens sprinkled throughout the city. About 4 million people live in this modern city full of skyscrapers and traffic. Santiago offers the comforts and cultural activities of a big city and is close to beaches, mountains and Chile’s lake district.
The South American country of Chile stretches 2,800 miles from the Atacama Desert in the north to glaciers and fjords in the south. About 125 miles wide, Chile lies between the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Andes to the east. Although its population is mainly European in origin, there remains an indigenous presence a few hours south of Santiago. Gaining its independence from Spain in 1818, Chile’s agriculture and mining industries have helped Chile be an economically dynamic country from early in its history. In 1973, Santiago was the hub of the military coup that brought General Augusto Pinochet to power. While his 17-year dictatorship brought brutal repression to the country, today Chile is a prosperous democracy. Chile is well-known for its wines, skiing and beaches.
Participants: Varied mix of nationalities, mostly from North America and Europe. About half of the students are University students.

Program Notes

- Important note, you will miss one group language classes per week during the day you choose to go skiing, however, you will receive two private hours/week to review missed material.
