AmeriSpan's Maestro Spanish for Educators Program in Alajuela, Costa Rica teaches participants the Spanish language and Costa Rican culture in order to facilitate more effective communication between educators and the growing community of native Spanish-speaking students and their parents. Participants will be exposed to a variety of cultural settings and will have the opportunity to meet with local teachers.
With the growing Hispanic population in the United States, this program is an exceptional opportunity for teachers to be exposed to the culture and language of their students and parents. By learning about the Costa Rican educational setting, it will be easier to relate to students and the common struggles they face in US classrooms. Alajuela's typical Costa Rican setting makes it easy for participants to immerse themselves in daily life.
AmeriSpan's Maestro Spanish for Educators Program in Alajuela includes 4 hrs/day of group Spanish classes, school visits, daily cultural and education-based activities, and 2 weekend excursions.

With a population of around 100,000 and average temperatures of 74-80 degrees, Alajuela offers the language traveler the relaxed environment of a small tropical city and easy access to San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital (15 miles east of Alajuela).
Known as the Switzerland of Central America, Costa Rica has an abundance of natural beauty and is populated by a friendly, well-educated people. Costa Rica has obtained the highest standard of living in Central America by embracing democracy and disbanding its army. This small country is a paradise for nature lovers with national parks, jungles, volcanoes, beaches, and more water per square mile than any other country in the world, excluding New Zealand. However, the small pre-Colombian indigenous population was wiped out by diseases brought to the new world by the conquistadors.
Participants: The course is open to all teachers, academic faculty, administration, and those studying to be an educator.
