Host School:
CELPE-Bras, or Certificado de Proficiencia em Lingua Portuguesa para Estrangeiros, is the only certificate of proficiency in Brazilian Portuguese as a Foreign Language. It is officially recognized and was developed by the Brazilian Ministry of Education. It is officially recognized by business and educational institutions and serves as an entry qualification for studying at a higher educational institution in Brazil.
In this flexible course, students can choose the dates and number of weeks they wish to prepare, based on their current Portuguese level and the level of exam that wish to pass. The course combines group Portuguese classes in the mornings with private afternoon sessions that will prepare students for the exam. One of our fundamental principles of the course is to maximize of spoken communication in real-life situations. There will also be sessions devoted to culture, regional studies, literature and business. The school uses a large variety of modern teaching resources and equipment.

Maceio (pop. 723,230) is a port city located on the east coast of Brazil and is about a 2-hour flight north from Rio. It is the state capital of Alagoas and is best known for its tropical lagoons and beaches. Because Maceio is largely undiscovered by foreign tourists, it is a great destination for language students.
Originally colonized by Portugal, Brazil is by far the largest country in South America. It is a country diverse in culture, landscape, and style. The country is covered by dense Amazon rainforest in the north and central regions. The coastal regions of Brazil offer some of the most famous and beautiful beaches in the world. Each city in Brazil has its own unique character ranging from the modern capital of Brasilia to the tourist capital of Rio de Janeiro to the port city of Maceio. Portuguese is the language spoken in Brazil.

Program Notes
- Program prices do not include examination fee. Exam fee is approximately 90 Reales. You must register directly with the government.
- Airport Pickup: $60 from Maceio
The city of Maceio is located in the northeastern part of Brazil. There are Flights from North America and Europe to Recife, Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. From there you fly to Maceio.
